Carlyle FFA officer Hunter Rich won an 18 credit hour Kaskaskia College scholarship

after placing first in the Section 21 Varsity Extemporaneous Public Speaking Leadership

Development Event which was held during the last week of February.

According to the FFA website, students participating in this event are able to display their

knowledge of an agricultural topic by giving a four to six minute speech and answering questions

after a short time to prepare.

“This scholarship puts me closer to earning my degree,”said Rich.

This was not the only scholarship the Carlyle senior has earned this year. Rich previously

earned a six credit hour Kaskaskia College scholarship during the Agronomy Career

Development Event, which was held at Kaskaskia College last fall.

On the same evening, Sawyer Johnson and Samantha Vohlken participated in the Section

21 Creed Speaking Leadership Development Event.

Johnson placed first in the event and will advance with Rich to the District 5 contest,

which will be held in April at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
