Carlyle FFA members Brody Diekemper and Katelyn Davison were named District 5
Champions in their Agricultural Proficiency areas and will advance to the state level on March
22 in Decatur.
Diekemper placed first in Beef Production Entrepreneurship, and Davison placed first in
Safety.
Diekemper has been updating records for four years about his bred heifer farm.
Early this year, he advanced from the Section 21 competition to the District 5
competition, where he interviewed in front of a panel of judges that questioned him about the
beef industry.
In Davison’s Safety proficiency, she detailed her duties as a lifeguard, citing details about
a person she saved and different life-saving skills she has learned.
“District proficiencies were definitely a fun, new experience for me. I competed against
one other person in my category of safety, and I won,” said Davison.
Other Carlyle FFA members also placed at the District 5 Supervised Agricultural
Experience.
Junior Maddy Rae Schomaker placed second in Equine Science Proficiency.
Sophomore Ella Jordan placed second in Goat Production Proficiency, and junior Audrey
Rahm placed third in Agricultural Education Proficiency.
